Bernadette Ashcroft

Bernadette is the Chief Officer for the Collective

I joined the VCFSE sector in Greater Manchester in 1991 – for 17 years I worked for the national charity, Turning Point providing a range of residential and community based drug, alcohol and mental health services. In 2009 I was appointed CEO for Age UK Tameside and worked closely with the local VCFSE sector and commissioning teams to develop and transform services for older adults. Since 2017, I have worked as a self employed charity leader, this has included Interim and Crisis CEO placements across the country including advice and counsel to local charity Boards including carers services, young peoples services and community mental health.

I am delighted to be appointed to the role of CEO and recognise the innovative approach developed by George Devlin and other leaders across the VCSE and public sector in Trafford. Together, they ensure that the essential and sometimes underestimated work of the VCFSE is valued and resourced. I will bring my experience and knowledge of the sector and of Greater Manchester to support the continued development of the Collective. I will focus on the engagement of people and communities, ensuring the community voice is heard to tackle inequalities and contribute to making Trafford a great place to live.

I have lived and worked in Greater Manchester all my life and love all that GM has to offer. I love the outdoors, greenspace, walking and camping and currently taking advantage of the tram route from my home in Prestwich to my new base at Oakland House. I am excited to meet new colleagues and pleased to see some familiar ones.

I believe that great work can be achieved by strong and positive relationships with shared  intentions and people and communities at the heart of everything we do.
