Reducing Gendered Violence in areas of Trafford

Right To The Streets Case Study

GreaterSport in partnership with Trafford Community Collective, supported the Old Trafford, Stretford and Gorse Hill communities to reduce gendered violence; and to create and maintain safe spaces and a sense of belonging, to enable active and joyful lives. This community-based approach was part of the wider Right to the Streets project in Trafford.

Our project aimed to achieve the following:

  • To help create a feeling of safety and belonging on the streets and public spaces with an invitation to be creative (painting, planting, performances etc)
  • To deliver engagement with and for the local community, centring on movement and activity (walking, wheeling, cycling, yoga, dance, group sports etc)
  • Create awareness around gendered violence and how we can make public spaces safer, particularly for women & girls.

Initial funding was awarded to GreaterSport in partnership with the Trafford Community Collective (TCC) through the Home Office Safer Streets Fund to fund Community Collector roles from Sep 2022 through to Sep 2023.
