Launching at the beginning of November and running through the winter months there is a new initiative called Winter Hearts being run at the Café in Stamford Park, Altrincham.
This project is being led by one of our Lead Partners, the Counselling Family Centre (CFC).
CFC liaises closely with other local community and faith groups, charities and many statutory agencies to support people to have better mental health and wellbeing, to live well in their community. An Altrincham Older People’s Network has been established to give support for reducing loneliness and isolation, engaging people in community-based activities and improving older people’s physical and mental wellbeing
CFC has strong links with Age UK Trafford, GPs in Altrincham and the local social prescribing team and Winter Hearts will be a community response to support older people at risk of health or social deterioration during Winter.
The project will deliver weekly sessions of support every Monday for the older people in a safe and welcoming environment led by a CFC Qualified Counsellor/Group worker. The sessions will enable people to meet, develop friendships and peer support, access information and develop the skills they need to live well in their community. The weekly programme of activities will include social activities including friendship groups, digital support and two hours of music projects by String of Hearts, health education, health checks and other community-based support will be available to ensure older people are “winter ready”.
As well as helping older people connect more they are looking for volunteers to help those that come along feel welcome and take part in all that is being offered.
Check out CFC social media to find out times and dates of these sessions and see the flyer below.
